STUD MANAGER

at Holme Park Stud, Northill, Beds, England

We are have been breeding high quality Trakehner Sports Horses for 25 years and have a modern purpose built yard with excellent breeding and training facilities.  We also have a few liveries (no DIY)

A vacancy has arisen for a "Stud Manager" from May 2011

We are looking for a new person to join our us who can work to a very high standard and fit into our friendly  team and take overall responsibility for the daily management of the stud.

Duties include:

• Care of mares, foals and youngsters

• Feeding and Mucking out

• Assist with Foaling down mares

• Stallion handling

• Covering mares and AI  (Training can be given)

• Assist with Preparing youngsters for backing  and for grading. Must have good groundwork techniques including long reining and lunging. (We have a full time rider so it is not essential to be able to ride)

• Presenting horses at show

• Supervising other staff on yard

• Looking after and Helping liveries

• Estate Management / maintenance (90 acres of grassland)

• tractor driving to clean paddocks (training will be given)

• Driving telescopic forklift for moving hay and straw

• Drive Theault Horsebox (3.5ton) and possibly Oakley Supreme (7.5ton)

• Own car

• 6 day week (48 hours) starting at 8am 

Sorry no pets or own horses.

Salary : Negotiable depending on experience

 This is a great opportunity to work with one of Europe's leading herds of Trakehner Horses.  This is a beautiful new yard with modern facilities and excellent furnished accommodation with broadband internet.

We are not necessarily looking for qualifications - more important to have good practical experience and a love of working with horses.  Trakehners are intelligent sensitive horses and need someone to work with them who is calm and competent - they do not respond to bullying or heavy handed treatment but need confident handling.
You must be a dedicated cheerful person who is happy to work as part of a team.
