The ordeal of “Singing Holly”

Singing Holly was a young Trakehner mare which one day – like many other horses, too – was sold to a new owner.  Singing Holly was moved from the UK to Spain with many other horses to a farm close to Medina Sidonia.

One year later Singing Holly (and 15 of her friends) were dead!

Starved to death on a piece of sunburnt wasteland where the herd was left to die without enough water, hay or food….

Starved to death because Spanish officials ignored an official charge for weeks…

Only about thirty horses from the original of over fifty are still alive.  The others are dead – or still dying from the continued neglect.

The Andalusian animal welfare organization CACMA (www.cacma.org and its chairman Antonio Moreno are fighting to keep the horses alive, but also against Spanish bureaucracy:

According to the Andalusian law, animals in such bad conditions usually have to be put down…

CACMA buys hay and water for the surviving horses which, due to legal grounds are still with their “owner”.

Thanks to the CACMA the horses are kept in check and monitored by vets and police several times a week.

In the meantime the former owners in UK are trying to make the best of this bad job – but checking out the possibilities takes time; time the horses probably don’t have if there is no-one on location to take care of them.
CACMA needs your help, because the horses need hay, water and medication daily!
