Holme Trakehner Open Day 2008

The sun shone and the spectators arrived at Holme Park Stud for their 16th Annual Open Day on Sunday 29th June 2008.   Erhard Schulte was our commentator for the afternoon enlightening the audience with his knowledge of the pedigrees of the wonderful Trakehner horses.  Over 250 guests including many TBF Members, enjoyed a two hour presentation of high quality mares with their dancing foals and young ridden Trakehners as well as their 4 Graded Trakehner Stallions.  Holme Grove Solomon (now 22) his son Holme Park Krug (now 13) ridden by Debbie Watts and grandson German Graded and Performance Tested Stallion Holme Park Legend (aged 5) ridden by Jessica Götting.  The Finale was a breathtaking ridden display by Holme Grove Prokofiev and Julia Wetton.

As always with horses there are ups and downs but our low point of the year was the loss of PM Holme Grove Sante Fe.  A tribute was made to her by Erhard while her daughter Holme Grove Sayan floated around the arena showing that this bloodline would live on at Holme Grove.  Other highlights of the show were Holme Park Schakara with her 17th foal at foot, Holme Park Sophia a stunning black filly by Holme Park Krug and back in foal for foal number 18!  The full brother to Holme Park Legend, the chestnut colt Holme Park Leonardo and the best moving foal of the day Holme Grove Kiribati by Holme Grove Prokofiev out of Chris Watkiss’ grey mare Holme Grove Kirschblute, whose proud breeder Beate Heise was one of the overseas guests of the day.

Sporting Pigs supplied a Hog Roast for the party in the garden afterwards.

A donation from the day was made to Johanna Vardon MBE and the National Foaling Bank to support the wonderful work she does supporting Breeders.

A DVD of the day is available by contacting Susan Attew on susanattew@holmetrakehners.com
