PRESS RELEASE
DANCING TRAKEHNERS
More than 250 guests were treated to an afternoon of dancing Trakehners at the Holme Trakehner Annual Open Day held 11th July 2004 at Susan and Paul Attew’s Holme Park Stud, Northill. The afternoon commenced with a breathtaking display by International Dressage rider Peter Storr riding the elegant black Trakehner Stallion Holme Grove Prokofiev. His elevation in passage was outstanding and as quoted by Peter “ He is extremely light on his feet and fantastic to ride”. Peter has the ride on Prokofiev while Julia Wetton has been on maternity leave but is reluctant to hand him back! He will definitely remain with Peter until after the Summer National Dressage Championships.
The crop of foals that followed showed that Holme Grove Prokofiev is not just a talented dressage horse but consistently passes his power and elevation to his foal although it has to be said that the quality of mares used for breeding at Holme Trakehners also ensures these high quality results.
Holme Park Krug has been out of work for the competition season due to a tendon injury he sustained on his journey down to Peter’s yard earlier in the year. Now fit and well again he was shown in a long reining display where he showed his outstanding uphill paces and wonderful attitude to work. Holme Park Krug is proving to be a prolific sire with his foals take his beauty and movement.
The Stud’s senior stallion the 18 year old Holme Grove Solomon was beautifully ridden by Paul and Susan’s daughter Liz Attew and not to be outshone by the two younger stallions his collection of foals showed their wonderful movement including the full brother to Holme Park Krug, the bay colt Holme Park King who danced around the arena showing off to ‘his’ audience!
Holme Grove Solomon has bred many outstanding horses and the competition success are many including the first offspring winning at PSG this year and National Champions, Holme Grove Bolero in Australia and Holme Grove Goldcard in South Africa. Holme Grove Goldcard’s owners John and Sue Olsson had come all the way from South Africa and were presented with some Harrods Champagne Flutes to congratulate them for their achievements.
A fitting tribute was made to Holme Grove Solomon with the presentation of the first ever awarding of the “Trakehner Breeders’ Fraternity Excellence Award” for his contribution to Trakehner Breeding in UK.
A BBQ party for all the guests was then held in the garden with the last partiers not leaving until after midnight!
